Landscape

When we travel with open eyes we absorb the impressions we receive from the landscape. In our minds we couple the memories of these landscapes with multiple sensations: odours, sounds, tastes and feelings are connected to the outer picture of a country, a horizontal line behind the ocean, cloud shadows wandering across a beach. In this way pictorial worlds grow inside us independent of their actual origin. When I paint I trace down such inner pictorial worlds and transform them into oil or acrylic in a process of “portraying by painting”. Even though many of my newer landscapes have been influenced by my second home La Palma none of these soul landscapes can be found in reality. The pictures invite the viewer to open up to a trip into the world of inner pictures and develop their own associations while watching seemingly existent reality.
